(Link: ) A Tuggnut costs about $30 and wouldn't have risked unrepairable damage to the frame. I actually need someone to verify this information is correct. It also takes some equipment not everyone has like a welder.Ī not so extreme repair would have been to use a Surly Tuggnut chain tensioner. And with a smaller single ring up front, you’ll clear those logs and rocks without bending teeth. Welding and forming part of the frame could have caused a crack or some other unrepairable damage to the frame. Also, with the fixed gearing, you find you get up those climbs faster than you used to in granny gear, expending what feels like the same amount of energy. ![]() ![]() The sliding dropouts still moved a little on really steep climbs or during hard breaking but it wasn't noticeable and it wasn't enough movement to make the tire rub.
